Training – Rifle

Basic Rifle

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

No Prerequisites

Expectations

This is a 4 hour course: 80-90% class time, 10-20% range time

This class is for novice carbine/rifle owners.  In this class, students will learn the fundamentals of carbine/rifle safety, operation, manipulation and handling.  By the end of this course, students will, comfortably load, unload, operate, and maintain their firearm.

Course Outline 

  • Rifle selection and support equipment review (various slings, carrying positions and pros and cons)
  • Rifle manipulation skills (loading, clearing, malfunctions)
  • Marksmanship fundamentals (stance, target acquisition-iron sights VS red dot)
  • Zeroing procedures (iron sight VS red dots/ holographic)
  • Bolt lock reloads
  • Malfunction clearances
  • Multiple target transitions
  • Positional shooting
  • Shooting drills
  • Cleaning and maintenance discussion

Equipment List 

  • Semi-automatic rifle or carbine with sling and optic (recommended)
  • Recommended calibers: 300 BLK, 223/5.56, 7.62×39
  • 2 magazines
  • Magazine pouches (recommended)
  • Sturdy belt (at least 1.5” wide recommended)
  • Footwear, closed toe, suitable for rapid movement and turning
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for training
  • Wraparound eyewear, polycarbonate lenses or non-shattering prescription glasses (loaners are available if needed)
  • Ear protection (loaners available if needed)

Ammo

  • Estimated round count: 90 rounds rifle
  • Lead core ammunition only
  • Ammunition is available for purchase at Franktown Firearms facility

Pricing:

  • Individual (in-class) – $120
  • Private One-on-One – $250
  • Private (2) – $350
  • Private Group (up to 4 participants) – $550

₸   Due to the variety of available platforms, the course focus will be on AR style rifles/carbines.  We will  try our best to accommodate other platforms if needed as long as it does not create an interference with the class timeline/outline.

Rifle 2

Instructor to student ratio 1:5

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Prerequisite 

Students should be able to demonstrate proficiency in weapon handling and practical marksmanship. Completion of Franktown Firearms Basic Carbine-Rifle or its equivalent is strongly recommended prior to registration.  Students will need to expertly demonstrate skills covered in Franktown Firearms Basic Carbine-Rifle class.

Expectations

This is an intermediate level course: 45% theory and 55% hands on.

At the conclusion of this course students will be familiar with adequate techniques to comfortably operate and manipulate their rifles.  Engage targets from various barriers/positions, transition to pistol and back to rifle, perform efficient magazine changes.

Course Outline    (this is a 5 hour course depending on class size)

  • Choose a rifle and support equipment to support defensive needs
  • Manipulate the rifle efficiently and effectively
  • Improve marksmanship fundamentals
  • Zero a rifle
  • Utilize ready positions
  • Efficiently and effectively reload a rifle
  • Ammo management skills / tactical reloads
  • Introduction to transition from rifle to pistol
  • Introduction to transition the rifle bilaterally
  • Clear malfunctions
  • Engage multiple targets with efficiency
  • Engage targets utilizing pivots/turns and lateral movement
  • Improve accuracy from prone, kneeling, and seated positions
  • Properly utilize cover
  • Introduction to hoot, move, communicate skills

Rifle 3

Instructor to Student Ration 1:5

Students failing to meet and maintain our safety requirements and/or who cannot meet and immediately demonstrate the minimum skills required for the specific class may be removed from training. Please ensure you have read through the class description and fully understand our prerequisites before registering.

Prerequisites 

Students should be able to demonstrate proficiency in weapon handling and practical marksmanship. Completion of Franktown Firearms Rifle 1 or its equivalent is strongly recommended prior to registration.  Students will need to expertly demonstrate skills covered in Franktown Firearms Basic Rifle class.

Expectations

This is an advanced level course;10% theory and 90% hands on.

At the conclusion of this course students will be familiar with adequate techniques to comfortably move and shoot back/ forth and laterally, engage targets and move from various barriers/positions transition to pistol and back to rifle (clear malfunctions), engaged targets on the move while transitioning from rifle to pistol and reverse, switch to kneeling, sitting, prone and back up while engaged.

Course Outline (this is a 6 hour course depending on the class size)

  • Tactical live fire movements
  • Defensive shooting techniques
  • Transition to kneeling, sitting, prone, and back up while shooting
  • Close quarter rifle operations and firearm retention techniques
  • Bilateral rifle manipulations
  • Operating in and around vehicles with the rifle (weather permitting)
  • 2-man team operation, movement, communication
